Boeing has finalized its $4.7 billion acquisition of Spirit AeroSystems, integrating roughly 15,000 employees across five sites and bringing major commercial and aftermarket operations in-house.
The deal strengthens production of 737 fuselages and key 767, 777, and 787 Dreamliner structures, while expanding maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services and consolidating the companyās spare parts supply chain.
Operational stability
āThis is a pivotal moment in Boeingās history,ā Kelly Ortberg, Boeing president and CEO, said in a statement earlier this month. āAs we welcome our new teammates, our focus is on stability, delivering high-quality airplanes, differentiated services, and advanced defense capabilities for our customers.ā
Spirit Defense will operate as an independent subsidiary under Boeing Defense, Space & Security, ensuring continuity for U.S. defense and space programs. In addition, Spiritās Belfast, Northern Ireland operations will be rebranded as Short Brothers, a Boeing company, operating as an independent subsidiary.
Spiritās commercial and aftermarket operations in Wichita, Kansas; Dallas, Texas; Tulsa, Oklahoma; and the Aerospace Innovation Center in Prestwick, Scotland, will integrate into Boeingās Commercial Airplanes and Global Services divisions.

Innovation focus
Kansas officials hailed the deal as a boost for the stateās aerospace industry. Governor Laura Kelly said the acquisition underscores Kansasā global significance in aircraft manufacturing. US Senators Jerry Moran and Roger Marshall, along with Congressman Ron Estes, highlighted the dealās reinforcement of Wichitaās status as the āAir Capital of the Worldā and its world-class aerospace workforce.
