Taylor Swift has once again set the pace of the global music industry, with The Life of a Showgirl officially named IFPI’s Biggest-Selling Global Album of the Year 2025, after dominating worldwide sales, streaming, and vinyl charts.
Swift’s album claimed the No.1 position across the Global Album Chart, Global Album Sales Chart, and Global Vinyl Album Chart—selling 6.05 million physical and download units globally and moving 2.34 million vinyl copies alone, according to data released on February 20 by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI).
Vinyl revival
The performance marks the fourth consecutive year Swift has broken the global vinyl sales record, underscoring the continued resurgence of premium physical formats alongside digital consumption.
The album’s success was driven by a tightly coordinated global release strategy combining multiple physical editions, strong digital distribution, and sustained international marketing. While The Life of a Showgirl ranked eighth on the Global Streaming Album Chart, its dominance across formats secured its overall top spot.
The wider charts reveal a music market that is increasingly global and genre-diverse. I’m The Problem by Morgan Wallen topped the Global Streaming Album Chart, marking his second streaming victory in three years, while Bad Bunny placed second with DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS, which finished fourth overall across all formats.
Market diversity
K-Pop continued to lead physical album sales, with Stray Kids’ KARMA selling 3.49 million units and SEVENTEEN’s HAPPY BURSTDAY moving 2.63 million units, reflecting the genre’s strong fan-driven purchasing power. Japanese and Chinese artists also made notable gains, including Mrs. GREEN APPLE, whose anniversary album 10 entered the global top 10 for the first time.
Vinyl sales highlighted sustained investment in high-quality physical releases. Sabrina Carpenter placed two albums in the vinyl top five, while classic titles from Radiohead, Fleetwood Mac, and Michael Jackson returned to the top 20, demonstrating vinyl’s cross-generational appeal.
“Taylor Swift topping the IFPI Global Album rankings once again reflects the strength of her connection with fans worldwide,” said Victoria Oakley, CEO of IFPI. “This year’s results show how truly global today’s music market has become, with success driven across streaming and physical formats by artists from a wide range of countries and genres.”
